The release of New Moon made it a big year for Team Jacob, and Lautner packed on 30 pounds to reprise his role as Jacob, the werewolf. In a matter of months Lautner went from scrawny to seriously buff, showing off a new eight-pack in the pages of Rolling Stone. Lautner’s motivation to be fit doesn’t stem entirely from a movie role, either; he’s also an accomplished martial arts artist.

From ages 6 to 13, Lautner studied karate and was ranked number one in the world for NASKA’s Black Belt Open Forms, Musical Weapons, Traditional Weapons and Traditional Forms. Growing up, Lautner played team sports, and says that if it wasn’t for acting he would have focused on a serious career in football.

Curious to see why Lautner may have received so many votes? Check out his recent gig on Saturday Night Live where he gave fans a display of his martial arts skills.

Summit Entertainment and producers Temple Hill are crafting an action vehicle for their “Twilight” star Taylor Lautner that shapes up as the first film after his breakthrough in “New Moon.”

Summit has acquired an untitled script by Eric Champnella and Grant Thompson that is best described as a teenaged “Taken” meets “Die Hard.”

Dan Lautner will produce with Temple Hill partners Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen.

Dan Lautner is the actor’s father, and the action project becomes the first project in Tailor Made Entertainment, a company they’ve formed to develop film and TV vehicles.

After an injury sidelines a teen’s plans to be an elite soldier, he tries to get on with his life by heading to college. There he meets a girl who convinces him to join her friends on a spring-break trip to Cancun. When his traveling partners are kidnapped and ransomed for the freedom of a drug-cartel leader about to be extradited, the college student uses his warrior skills to rescue them.

Godfrey said the project grew out of Lautner’s enthusiasm for “Taken” — which he saw during the filming of “New Moon” — and his desire to do a movie in the genre. The Champnella/Thompson script offered the

opportunity for the former karate champ to use the brawn and physical skills he displayed during his recent hosting stint on “Saturday Night Live.”

We wanted to continue working with Taylor and feel he’s got the chops to become a big action star,” Godfrey said.

Lautner recently became attached to “Max Steel” at Paramount.

Godfrey said the hope is to get the Cancun-set project into production by June. Lautner will reprise his role of Jacob in “Breaking Dawn” beginning in late 2010, and it is likely that the final book will be divided into two films that will shoot back-to-back.

Shirtless Taylor Lautner and his award-winning abs have been voted “Most Wanted in 2009” by People.com. “Nearly half of you want to see more of the bulked-up star in 2010,” says People.com of their “Most Wanted” star.

According to a recent CNN study, Taylor Lautner is more popular with kids in their search engine histories than his The Twilight Saga: New Moon and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse co-star (and on-screen rival) Robert Pattinson – by a decent margin, too.

In fact, Lautner was placed at number 80 on the study’s top 100 list of search terms . . . and Robert Pattinson wasn’t even in the top 100.

That’s not to say Pattinson doesn’t have his own, well-endowed fanbase, but apparently the kids are Team Jacob . . . or Team Taylor . . . go figure.

Taylor Lautner may be about to pin down another role.

Seemingly seconds after he booked yet another post-Jacob job, sources tell E! News that the 17-year-old actor is in talks to put his New Moon abs to good use in a remake of the 1985 drama Vision Quest.

Which is not what it sounds like—a cheesy sci-fi flick—but rather a coming-of-age romance that featured Madonna’s “Crazy for You” as its theme song and starred Matthew Modine as a high school wrestling star who falls in love with an artist—a permtastic Linda Fiorentino—his dad has taken in as a boarder.

Why remake? Let’s just re-release that!

But Taylor could wind up playing an updated version of Modine’s character in the still-in-development film, which counts Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen of Temple Hill Entertainment (and Twilight and New Moon fame) as producers. We hear that Richard Munic has penned a screenplay that is “very faithful” to the original Vision Quest.

“Taylor saw [the script] and is really excited about it,” says a source. “It’s very much in line with his athleticism. His character is someone who’s striving for greatness.”

A rep for Lautner didn’t respond to a request for comment and Warner Bros., which owns the rights to Vision Quest, remained mum on whether it’s considering the shirtless wonder for the lead, confirming only that the film is in development.

I used to watch this with my brother because he was a wrestler – probably the greatest wrestling movie ever made (real wrestling, not WWF!) and I would LOVE it if he re-made this!

In “The Twilight Saga’s Eclipse”, Bryce Dallas Howard is slated to replace Rachelle Lefevre who played Victoria in “Twilight” and “The Twilight Saga’s New Moon”. In her recent interview with MTV, the actress has expressed her opinion about her bloodsucking character. “Victoria is a wonderful character. It’s awfully juicy to play a villain. To play someone that’s just evil, Victoria is evil,” she claimed.

Dishing on the film, which has been claimed to feature a lot of actions, Howard said, “And I think with ‘Eclipse’, it ends with quite a huge battle, a big spectacle, and it’s very scary.” She continued explaining, “It’s a very, very scary book and very terrifying set of circumstances, and I think the Cullens are in jeopardy in a way that they never really have been before.”

“Eclipse” is going to be the first of “Twilight” films that gets IMAX treatment. As of late, director David Slade revealed this third installment of the vampire drama series is going to keep a balance between love story and actions and the story will still focus on the love triangle between Edward Cullen, Bella Swan, and Jacob Black.

Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner, will all return to reprise their roles as Edward, Bella, and Jacob respectively. The upcoming movie is scheduled to be released both on IMAX screens and in traditional movie theaters across the U.S. on June 30, 2010.

Summit Entertainment has picked up the action script Cancun by Eric Champnella and Grant Thompson. Taylor Lautner (“The Twilight Saga”) is attached to star in the project.

The Hollywood Reporter says Taylor’s dad, Dan Lautner, is in discussion to produce the movie with Temple Hill’s Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen.

The story follows an out-of-place college kid who travels with a girl to Cancun on a break. While there, the girl and her friends are taken hostage by a drug cartel and he is forced to save them.

The trade adds that the project is designed to take advantage of Lautner’s martial arts skills.

Oh, look… Taylor Lautner’s in demand again. What a shocker. Yes, while Twilight’s shirt-eschewing were-hunk was the focus of speculation that Paramount was considering him as Max Steel, he’s also being courted by Summit Entertainment, which understandably wants to keep using one of the elements that made New Moon such a big success.

The company has nabbed action spec script Cancun, written by Eric Champnella and Grant Thompson, with plans to make it into a starring vehicle for Lautner.

And the story? A college lad heads to the Mexican holiday hotspot with a girl, who promptly gets herself kidnapped by a drug cartel. So careless, some ladies. Lautner’s character is forced to break out some action chops and utilize his fancy martial arts skills (which the actor was only to happy to show off on Saturday Night Live this past weekend) to rescue her.

There’s no word on exactly when it’ll shoot, but we bet Summit will strike will the Lautner is hot (and when he’s got some time between shooting Breaking Dawn and fielding other offers).

3: Whether we were on Team Edward or Team Jacob, a lot of us couldn’t stop talking all year about ‘Twilight,’ and how last year’s initial installment had whetted our appetite for the vampire/werewolf/teen-girl triangle to come. The stakes were high, but the anticipation paid off in ‘New Moon.’ In a year where pop culture everywhere seemed to be crawling with vampires, these neckbiters were the ones we couldn’t stop obsessing over.
