Directed by David Slade and starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse has received a good review in Variety (subscription required to access the review), where Peter Debruge opines that “the pleasant surprise this time around is that the result finally feels more like the blockbuster this top-earning franchise deserves.” Debruge goes on to praise Slade, for he “clearly understands how to work with actors while also demonstrating a welcome competence in the action and melodrama departments.” Yet, the commentary contains no mention of the effectiveness of any particular performer. In fact, there’s no mention at all of Stewart, Pattinson, or Lautner, apart from having their names in parentheses next to those of the characters they play. Author Stephenie Meyer gets put down a couple of times (e.g., “not much happens for the first 300 pages of Meyer’s novel”; “the poor scribe exhausts herself trying to find synonyms for ‘perfection’”), but screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg is commended for coming up with good moments not found in the “somewhat simple-minded source.” The special effects and Javier Aguirresarobe‘s cinematography also receive kudos, whereas the “bad makeup, lifeless wigs and creepy contacts [are] the elements that disrupt the fantasy.” But wait. Aren’t those eyes supposed to be “creepy”? Debruge concludes his first-paragraph summary with the following: “Summer release should reap Summit’s biggest yield yet.” (Curiously — and perhaps fortunately — the cliche about action scenes bringing in more guys into theaters is left unmentioned.) Eclipse opens in the United States and about a dozen other countries on June 30. Source: Alt Film Guide |

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse’s Gil Birmingham, who plays Jacob’s father Billy Black, caught up with On The Red Carpet’s Rachel Smith at the recent Los Angeles premiere of his new film Love Ranch, which stars Helen Mirren and Joe Pesci.
He joked, “I always say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.” As for what fans can expect for next week’s opening of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Birmingham confirms that the film stays true to the beloved book. “Stephanie [Meyer] has written and crafted a wonderful novel and Melissa [Rosenberg] has just toned it down for the time and the space she had to get it done,” he said. Clearly happy to be a part of the hit movie franchise, Taylor Lautner couldn’t believe the chaotic scene at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles last night (June 24).
Taylor continued to tell, “It’s a little bit of pressure, because you definitely want to live up to their expectations, but at the same time, we luckily have the most supportive fans in the world. Sometimes, this is just like extra comfort.” Meanwhile, Mr Lautner is readying to start filming a new movie called “Abduction,” of which he told MTV News, “I start [shooting the movie] in, like, three days. I have a day off tomorrow, I go to New York the next day, and then I go to Pittsburgh. I’m so excited!” Source: Celebrity Gossip |

Teen idol Taylor Lautner stars as werewolf Jacob Black in “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” a vampire romance film that sees him compete with bloodsucker Edward Cullen for the heart of a high school girl. In the movie opening on June 30, the rivalry between Jacob and Edward for the love of Bella Swan, the central character in the “Twilight” franchise, culminates in a scene where all three hunker down in a tent. Lautner’s character is part of a supernatural Wolf Pack in the movie, the third in the franchise. The 18 year-old actor spoke to Reuters about the tent scene, his many shirtless scenes in the film, and his strangest encounter with a “Twilight” fan. Q: There a lot of ironic moments in “Eclipse.” Was that something that you welcomed? A: “Yeah, I loved it. Because when you put Edward and Jacob together, it’s bound to have that sarcasm, that tension. But in the tent scene, I think the tent scene sums up the whole entire movie. It’s extremely tense, these guys hate each other. But at the same time, the situation is just pretty funny.” Q: Some might say you are objectified in these movies because you are so often shirtless. Does that help you understand what it’s like for women actors in films aimed at guy audiences? A: “I just feel that all of the love going toward the (“Twilight”) cast members is love going toward the characters. I mean with Megan Fox and Jessica Alba, sorry — they’re gorgeous. They just are, and they play many different characters where they’re gorgeous. I’m just lucky enough to be playing Jacob, the guy that doesn’t wear a shirt, and I think all of that love is going toward Jacob, not me personally.” Q: I hear you had a crazy encounter with a “Twilight” fan at an event in Australia where you were signing autographs. Can you talk about that? A: “I get down to one (fan) who has the Wolf Pack tattoo right on her forearm. And I was like, ‘Whoa that is so cool. That’s the real tattoo. Is it real?” And she’s like ‘Yeah.’ And she’s like ‘Can you sign it, right here?’ And I was like ‘Yeah, sure of course.’ And I had a feeling about it, I did. And Kristen actually predicted it. Then the next day I got a call from one of my buddies asking if I signed a girl’s arm, and I’m like ‘Yeah, I signed a lot of girls’ arms.’ And he’s like ‘One of them got it tattooed to her arm.’ And I’m like ‘It was the girl with the tattoo.’” Q: Your family moved from Michigan to the Los Angeles area to help you pursue your acting career. Did you feel any added pressure because of that? A: “I was like 10 years-old when I moved out. I was just like, ‘Yeah this is going to be fun, my family is moving to California, this is going to be great.’ I didn’t realize all the sacrifices they took, and everything involved in that move. Now, looking back, I’m like ‘Wow, good thing something worked out,’ because if it had bombed that would not have been good.” |

JASON ISAACS has thrown himself into training ahead of a fight scene with TAYLOR LAUTNER in upcoming movie ABDUCTION – because he doesn’t want the young actor to make him “look like an idiot”. The Harry Potter star begins filming the new thriller with the Twilight hunk later this month (Jun10) and he’s worried because one scene will see him tackle the 18 year old in a boxing sequence. And 47-year-old Isaacs admits he is working hard to get fit before he takes on the youngster onscreen. Speaking at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, ahead of the screening of Skeletons, he tells WENN, “Next week I’m doing Abduction with Taylor Lautner… and I’ve been kickboxing every day… from seven o’clock in the morning… because I have to have a long boxing sequence and I don’t want to look like an idiot. “He (Lautner) has the most famous abs in the world and he’s a fabulous actor but he’s also got the body of almost every woman between 14 and 100′s dreams. He’s turned overnight as the object of lust for over half the planet. I’m very conscious of the fact because we have this extended fight sequence and it is one of the main things I do in the film and he will probably be really good at it. “He’s young and supple and electric in his body and I will be struggling.” |
