In a slightly bizarre interview with E! Online’s Marc Malkin, the actor who’s played Wolverine four times was asked whether he thinks Taylor Lautner (who was recently rumored to be up for a role in Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming X-Men: First Class) should play a “teenage Wolverine.”

“My only question is,” said Jackman, “can he grow mutton chops?”

“Actually, I think people would probably prefer him as a hairless Wolverine than a rather hairy-chested version. Certainly about a billion young girls would!”

And if you needed further proof that it’s not a great idea for someone who’s never read a comic book (a “teenage Wolverine” in First Class!?) to ask these sort of things, the actor was then quizzed about whether there’s a chance Wolverine will appear in The Avengers in 2012: “I haven’t gotten any phone calls yet. But you never know. He could but you never know if someone else could have been called to play Wolverine.”
