Post Categories: Abduction

There was drama outside the set of Taylor Lautner’s new movie “Abduction” Wednesday, but it was not the kind 17-year-old Kathleen Lackey had been hoping to witness.

Lackey, who said she has spent 20 hours in the last three days hanging around various filming locations around Pittsburgh, was at the center of a literal firestorm when her car caught fire on a Mount Lebanon street where filming was taking place.“It was crazy,” said Caitlin Crowley, who witnessed the fire. “All you could see was smoke, then there was a boom and then the whole car was on fire.”Crowley, of Mt. Lebanon, was one of approximately 50 young girls who braved the blazing sun and soaring temperatures to camp outside the set in hopes to catch a glimpse Launter. It was a particularly cruel turn of events for Lackey, who had spent 12 hours waiting for Lautner yesterday before giving up, only to learn that he had emerged 10 minutes after her departure to sign autographs and pose for pictures. She lives in Plum, and has no problem justifying the 40-minute commute to Mt. Lebanon, despite the long-shot odds of actually seeing Taylor in the flesh. It’s a refrain heard from many of the girls who’ve made it their mission to come face-to-face with the star during his time in Pittsburgh.Sarah Mellon and Chezarina Capretto, for example, have devoted huge chunks of time to Taylor-watching. They have camped out across the street from his house, mustering up the courage to ring the doorbell a few times (the bodyguard answered), and have turned up at various shooting locations throughout Mt. Lebanon, staying anywhere from 4-8 hours each time. All this and they have yet to score an autograph. But ask them it it’s worth it, and they smile and nod heartily in unison.Even Kathleen Lackey, whose shell of car was finally towed away sometime around 3:00, vowed to stick around until at least dinnertime. “This won’t stop me,” she said. And then a thought occurred to her. “I just hope he hears about it,” she said, referring, of course to Taylor. “Maybe he’ll feel bad for me and come say hello.”Tuesday afternoon Lackey said she had to settle for a visit from the set publicist, who heard the sirens from inside his trailer and came out to investigate.

After speaking with Lackey and making sure she wasn’t injured, he broke the bad news by informing her he couldn’t even confirm that Taylor was indeed on set today. If the thought that she may have gone through all of this for nothing upset Lackey, she didn’t show it. Instead she thanked the publicist for his concern and rejoined her friend amidst the throngs of other girls.
