“The funny thing is, our directors are so different from one another,” Lautner told MTV News. “I didn’t have the opportunity to work with Catherine that much, but she was amazing. She’s very smart and so creative.”
Back in November, Lautner called Weitz’s directorial style “flawless,” and months later, his opinion of the man has not changed. “Chris was phenomenal — his sensibility. He’s so sensitive,” the 18-year-old said. “It really matched ‘New Moon’ ‘s feel.”
And while Lautner has fond feelings for that film, “Eclipse” is his favorite, if only because it has the most action. “David brought his darker, cooler, more dangerous feel to ‘Eclipse,’ which was awesome,” Lautner said.
Finally, there are the two parts of “Breaking Dawn,” which will begin filming in the fall. Lautner hasn’t yet had a chance to sit down with Condon to talk about the series, but he can’t wait for the opportunity.
“I met him briefly,” Lautner said. “Very quickly. Not about ‘Breaking Dawn.’ He seems like a very nice guy. Obviously ridiculously talented, so I’m excited I get to work with him twice.”

US Weekly’s “Sexy Stars of Twilight: New Moon” special issue was a huge hit with fans when it hit newsstands in October of last year. Dubbed by some as a “bookazine”, the custom edition was printed on heavier (read: collectible-grade) paper with a focus on telling the stories of the films while showcasing a superior collection of pictures of the stars of Twilight. In recent days, talk of the special issue has been revived—this comes in the wake of US Weekly’s announcement that it will publish yet another Twilight-focused special issue: “The Sexy Stars of Twilight: Eclipse”.
According to BarnesandNoble.com (which has the issue available for pre-order), US Weekly editors announced that the issue will contain the following: 7 posters, 160 photos, and exclusive interviews with principal cast members Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner, as well as secondary cast such as Boo Boo Stewart and Nikki Reed.

As you may know, the MTV Movie Award nominations were announced last week. This year, we see something different than we saw last year. The “Twilight Saga: New Moon” actors had such a busy year filming other movies, they are now competing against each other and themselves at the awards. At the Oscars, competing against yourself is usually considered the kiss of death because it’s assumed your votes will be split. However, with the “New Moon” cast, questions remain as to whether their other films can pull the same audience and votes as the second “Twilight” film.
In the “Best Kiss” category, Kristen Stewart is nominated twice – once for “New Moon” and once for “The Runaways”. “New Moon” had a significantly larger audience, but Kristen had enough votes to get both movies nominated. Now the question becomes: which movie will fans vote for? The easy answer is “New Moon”. More people saw it, more people have heard of it, and more people want to see Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart accept another “Best Kiss” award and almost kiss. But, what about the people who voted for her in “The Runaways”? Will they continue to vote, knowing that the movie had far less visibility and distribution? Voting for “The Runaways” may actually cannibalize Kristen’s chance at winning, but we won’t know until the awards air on June 6th. (Taylor Lautner is purposely not mentioned here because he is not competing against himself.)
In the “Best Male Performance” category, Robert Pattinson is nominated for “Edward Cullen” and Taylor Lautner is nominated for “Jacob Black”. The Team Edward and Team Jacob fans are going to come out of the wood work, though they were never really in hiding. This category IS going to be won by one of them and people will be feverishly voting up until the last moment to get their vampire or werewolf at the podium. This category will be the most controversial, and die hard fans really sway one way or another. I don’t expect “boos” if someone’s favorite doesn’t win, but either way, some people will be thrilled and some will be disappointed.
Where we have the biggest conundrum is in “Global Superstar”. Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson are all nominated. The Twifecta, as they are known, dominate in this category. The only other nominee who has a fighting chance is Johnny Depp, as he’s loved by many and has been around the longest. Assuming for a moment that Depp doesn’t win, who will the votes go to? Again, for Robert Pattinson and Jacob Black, it depends on who’s team you’re on. If you decide to forgo teams all together and vote for Kristen Stewart (aka “Team Bella”), do you run the risk of cannibalizing “New Moon” votes? This category will not necessarily be the most controversial, but may the toughest choice for the fans. All three actors have made other films in the past year, and all three are tapped for more films this year. Eyeballs everywhere will be glued to the TV for this one.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon is leading the nominations at Britain’s upcoming National Movie Awards – scooping nods for all three of the film’s stars.
Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner have all received recognition for their roles in the vampire sequel, going up against Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint in the Performance of the Year category.
The Twilight follow-up is pitted against Avatar, Alice In Wonderland and Clash of the Titans in the best fantasy film category, while the next installment, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, is in contention for the title of Most Anticipated Movie of the Summer.
Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince is nominated in the family film category along with Nanny McPhee And The Big Bang, and Up, while Coco Before Chanel, Paranormal Activity and Harry Brown are among films nominated for breakthrough movie prize.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon might not have been the biggest in overall domestic or worldwide intake for 2009, despite the best efforts of Twilight fans to make it so, but it still holds the top title for quite a few posts.
As you already know, New Moon secured the top spot for midnight ticket sales and opening day numbers on November 20th, 2009, bringing in well over seventy million dollars within twenty-four hours.
According to Box Office Mojo’s latest New Moon report, the film “still holds the record[s]” for those showings.
“It also stands as the biggest teen romance and vampire movie on record, eclipsing the first Twilight for the title,” Box Office Mojo’s Brandon Gray reports.
Oddly enough, and you’ve probably heard this before, New Moon takes the cake for “being the most front-loaded blockbuster ever, making 48 percent of its total gross on its first weekend alone.”
Interesting, eh?
Any theories on why New Moon was so “front-loaded” in numbers?
BOM goes on to report that internationally, New Moon did very well as compared to last year’s Twilight.
“The greatest growth for New Moon,” BOM reports, “came on the foreign front. It has pulled in $413.1 million thus far, more than doubling what Twilight made. That puts its worldwide total at $710 million versus Twilight’s $385 million.”

“Los Angeles, CA March 23, 2010 – Summit Entertainment announced today that the home entertainment release of the studio’s action-packed, modern day vampire love story THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON sold just over 4 million DVD units in its first weekend of release. The tally surpasses the first weekend sales of TWILIGHT in 2009 which sold 3.8 million DVD units, and went on to be the top selling DVD title of the year with 9.2 million units sold. The DVD launch of NEW MOON commenced this past Saturday morning with 7,000 retail locations nationwide taking part in events at midnight giving fans their first chance to obtain a DVD of the film.
Thousands of TWILIGHT fans across the nation participated in the “NEW MOON at Midnight” event and some were treated to surprise appearances by members of the cast as well as the film’s director. Fans saw actors Justin Chon who plays Eric, Christian Serratos who plays Angela, and Michael Welch who plays Mike in Salt Lake City; director Chris Weitz and Nikki Reed who plays Rosalie Hale in Los Angeles; Peter Facinelli who plays Dr. Carlisle Cullen in New York; Edi Gathegi who plays Laurent in Pittsburgh; and Liz Reaser who plays Esme Cullen in Phoenix. Other cast members of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON made appearances nationwide including Kiowa Gordon and Tinsel Korey in Cincinnati; Charlie Bewley in Denver; Chaske Spencer and Tyson Houseman in Atlanta; Daniel Cudmore in Houston; and screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg in Seattle.
Summit Entertainment’s Co-Chairmen Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger stated, “Once again the incredibly dedicated fans of the TWILIGHT SAGA came out in massive numbers this weekend for the opportunity to be one of the first take home the second movie in the series. As we have said all along, the fans are what make this franchise and we once again thank them for their support.”
“The support that we have received from our retail partners in accommodating the incredible demand for the title has been nothing short of amazing,” said Steve Nickerson, Summit’s President of Home Entertainment. “The ground we have broken with in-store partnerships and the availability of this title has been a positive influence on the retail DVD business.”
THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON, directed by Chris Weitz and starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, was released in theatres on November 20, 2009 and has since grossed over $705 million worldwide. In the film, the romance between mortal and vampire soars to a new level as Bella Swan (Stewart) delves deeper into the mysteries of the supernatural world she yearns to become part of—only to find herself in greater peril than ever before. Following Edward Cullen’s (Pattinson) departure from Forks, Washington, Bella discovers his image comes to her whenever she puts herself in jeopardy. In time Bella’s frozen heart is gradually thawed by her budding relationship with Jacob Black (Lautner) who has a supernatural secret of his own.
The third installment of the TWILIGHT franchise, THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE will be released in theatres throughout North America on June 30, 2010.”

Yes, it’s still early days, but Summit is trying to up its pedigree for its big-screen adaptation of the final installment of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series. Sources tell EW that the studio has reached out to at least three top-notch directors, including Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation), Gus Van Sant (Milk), and Bill Condon (Dreamgirls) to gauge their interest in what is likely to be two movies. (Van Sant’s reps confirmed that he’s been approached, but Coppola and Condon’s people didn’t return phone calls by press time. Summit declined to comment.)
No decisions are likely to be made until the studio delivers screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg’s detailed outline to the directors. That should happen sometime next week. Until then we can just wonder how these three very diverse directors will approach Bella’s controversial birthing scene.

In the eyes of the Academy Awards, “The Hurt Locker” was the Best Picture of 2009. But a loyal army of Twilighters feel differently — and this week, they’re making their opinions known at one of Hollywood’s most visible annual conventions.
“The Twilight Saga: New Moon” has been selected for the ShoWest/Fandango Fan Choice Award, which will be presented Thursday at ShoWest’s Final Night Banquet and Award Ceremony at Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas. The Fan Choice Award was voted on by nearly 50,000 moviegoers, who were asked on Fandango to select their favorite film of 2009.
ShoWest, the largest annual convention for the motion-picture industry, is currently under way in Las Vegas. This year’s installment will once again end with the celebrated Banquet and Award Ceremony, where awards will also be presented to Vanessa Hudgens, Zach Galifianakis, Amanda Seyfried, Sam Worthington and Jerry Bruckheimer. Rumor has it that a producer from the “Twilight” series will accept the award, and a special video message from one of the franchise’s top stars will be played for those in attendance.
“You might have guessed that ‘Avatar’ would have won the Fan Choice Award, since ‘Avatar’ was the top ticket-seller in our company’s history,” explained Fandango Chief Marketing Officer Ted Hong. “But never bet against the passion, loyalty and dedication of the vociferous ‘Twilight’ fans.”
The sequel to “Twilight” garnered nearly 66 percent of the vote — although “Hurt Locker” shouldn’t feel too bad, as the same studio (Summit Entertainment) showed off its diversity in 2009 by releasing both films.
“Moviegoers on Fandango have been behind the franchise from the very beginning, and that’s why the first ‘Twilight’ movie won the Fan Choice Award last year,” Hong added. “The big question will be whether or not ‘Eclipse’ will be in the running for next year’s award, and if the franchise can pull off a three-peat.”
“We are thrilled to once again have the opportunity to partner with Fandango to present the ShoWest/Fandango Fan Choice Award at this year’s ShoWest Final Night Banquet and Award Ceremony,” ShoWest managing director Robert Sunshine said in a statement. “It is no surprise that the fans have chosen the box-office hit ‘The Twilight Saga: New Moon’ as this year’s recipient, and we are excited to present the film with this award.”
DirecTV, who hosted the “Celebrity Beach Bowl” with Taylor Lautner and Kellan Lutz, has just announced that it will be hosting exclusive The Twilight Saga: New Moon footage on the night of the film’s release to DVD.
According to the announcement, “DirecTV will offer a special midnight premiere of The Twilight Saga: New Moon for pay-per-view on Mar. 20, which includes behind-the-scenes bonus footage not available from cable networks. Bonus featurettes include “The Subtle Details” (behind-the-scenes look at New Moon’s production design), and “Chris Weitz Takes the Helm” (a look at the transition from ‘Twilight’ director Catherine Hardwicke and ‘New Moon’ director Chris Weitz).”
The feature, the announcement states, will be available in “1080p HD version . . . for $5.99 and the standard-def for $4.99 starting midnight, March 20.”

The young independent studio hits its stride with Oscar wins and commercial success. Six wins at the Oscars for Kathryn Bigelow’s Iraq war drama, “The Hurt Locker,” capped off an extraordinary year at the cinema for Summit Entertainment. From the blockbuster successes of “New Moon” and “Knowing” to the critical triumph of “Hurt Locker,” the independent studio has firmly established itself as a major Hollywood presence with a bright future ahead of it.
“Summit has become a premier player in Hollywood after [the Oscars],” said Jeff Bock, box-office analyst for Exhibitor Relations. “To do that these days, you need two things: a blockbuster franchise and a Best Picture statuette. Well, Summit has both of those now with ‘Twilight’ and ‘The Hurt Locker.’ Once you establish a healthy line of income, and are known as a haven where artistic merit actually means something, you’ve set yourself up for a long stay in the industry.”
Coming off a 2008 that brought Summit its first breakout hit with “Twilight,” the studio stumbled out of the gate in 2009. The sci-fi action flick “Push,” starring Chris Evans, produced an anemic $10.1 million opening (debuting at #6, behind “Paul Blart: Mall Cop” in its fourth weekend) and ultimately failed to earn more domestically than its $38 million production budget. Little over a month later, the Cam Gigandet-starring “Never Back Down” again served up a heaping portion of disappointment for Summit when it debuted with an $8.6 million weekend and ended up grossing only $24.9 million.
Was the studio just a one-hit franchise wonder? Could Summit launch a commercially successful film that wasn’t based on a novel by “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer? Those questions were put to rest at the end of March with Nicolas Cage’s sci-fi thriller “Knowing.” Directed by Alex Proyas (“I, Robot”), the film opened at #1 at the box office with $24.6 million, beating out Julia Robert’s “Duplicity” and Paul Rudd’s “I Love You, Man.” The following weekend, “Knowing” dropped a less-than-average 40 percent, nabbing another $14.7 million on its way to $80 million in total domestic sales (and $183.3 million worldwide).
Summit had arrived. By the end of the year, after releasing nine new films, Summit was the seventh-highest-grossing studio with $482.5 million in sales. How did that happen? It wasn’t because the studio didn’t suffer some box-office duds. Both the animated tale “Astro Boy” and “Sorority Row” tanked. Rather, the achievement can be traced to two words: “New” and “Moon.”
In November, “New Moon” busted out the biggest opening weekend of all time. Its $142.9 million debut was a huge increase over the opening of “Twilight” ($69.6 million) and pushed it toward the fourth spot in 2009′s box-office race, closely behind “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.”
Months earlier, “The Hurt Locker” had opened in four theaters to wide critical acclaim. The film kept adding theaters but never took off commercially; its largest weekend brought in only $1.9 million. After 18 weekends in theaters, Bigelow’s film has grossed only $14.7 million.
But as awards season picked up, “The Hurt Locker” began to stand out. It won big at the Gotham Awards in early December and went on to secure key wins with the Directors Guild of America and the Broadcast Film Critics, before nabbing nine Oscar nominations. On Sunday night, Bigelow became the first woman in history to win a Best Director Oscar. These victories and the increased exposure that comes as a result should greatly increase the movie’s commercial prospects in theaters and on DVD.
As Bock said, “Now if only [Summit] could figure out a way to make money from an Iraq war film,” adding that the weak box-office performance of “The Hurt Locker” notwithstanding, “I think a lot of auteur filmmakers will be taking meetings with Summit in the very near future.”
Combine indie credit with broad commercial prospects in the coming months, and you can see why 2010 is shaping up to be another stellar year for Summit. Did we mention that “Eclipse,” the third film in the “Twilight” franchise, arrives in June?
