“The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lava Girl 3-D” (2005)![]() Movie Summary: Dreamer Max, ridiculed by his classmates, conjures up his perfect dreamworld…the Planet Drool. But his dream is more powerful than even he suspects, and his favourite dream super-heroes, Sharkboy and Lavagirl, materialise on Earth. They need help from Max. All is not well in Max’s dreamworld. An alien intelligence is interfering and darkness threatens his beloved Planet Drool. Is it true, as Sharkboy and Lavagirl say, that only Max, the powerful dreamer, can stop it? Max takes off on a wild and dangerous journey to the fantastic Planet Drool with Sharkboy and Lavagirl. Information on Taylor’s Role: According to Max, Sharkboy was the son of a successful marine biologist. Since he showed so much love for the sharks at the marine station, his father called him Sharkboy. During a storm, the marine station was destroyed; Sharkboy and his father survived, but they were on different life rafts and floated away in opposite directions. The sharks that he loved so much took him back to their cave and raised him as their own, teaching him the ways of the sharks. Sharkboy eventually grew gills, pointed teeth, and fins, and gets super-senses, becoming a half shark-half human hybrid. Max met Sharkboy while fishing on a dock; Sharkboy looked lost, so Max snuck him home. Sharkboy told Max all sorts of stories about Planet Drool, his planet. One night, a girl with firey hair and molten rock for skin came to collect Sharkboy and take him back to Planet Drool so they could save the planet. She was Lavagirl. Sharkboy and Lavagirl burst into Max’s classroom and take him to Planet Drool, as they are in need of his help to save the planet from the Darkness. Sharkboy, Lavagirl, and Max travel all over the planet to reach the Dream Lair, encountering many adventures and problems along the way. He even sings a song! In the end, Sharkboy finally becomes the King of the Ocean (or Sea) and sets off to find his long-lost father. Sharkboy is known to be very aggresive, but he does have a soft spot. He is a skilled fighter and very determined. Trivia: The story was conceived by Robert Rodriguez’s then seven-year-old son Racer Rodriguez, who receives an on-screen “Story By” credit. Max is named after Racer’s middle name. Director Trademark: ['Robert Rodriguez (I)')] [Big Kahuna Burgers] While Max is on the dock before he runs into Sharkboy you can see a fast food bag for “Big Kahuna Burgers” a fictional burger joint, also used in films of Rodriguez’ friend Quentin Tarantino. The movie was shot and completed so quickly that by the time Robert Rodriguez was ready to ship it, the advertisements weren’t finished. The face of the boy from the Troublemaker Studios logo can be seen as a design or sticker on the cover of Linus’ binder in multiple scenes. Photo Links: |
