As he often does in his movies, Garry Marshall cast many of his family members in small roles in this movie: Reed’s coworker Nikki is played by Marshall’s daughter Kathleen Marshall; Mr. Schwabbe is played by his son Scott Marshall; grandchildren Sam Marshall and Lily Marshall-Fricker play “Soccer son” and “Lily,” respectively; wife Barbara Marshall plays the nurse who tells Julia where Harrison is eating dinner; and niece Tracy Reiner plays a French photographer. When Edgar is at the cemetery before the movie starts, on the movie screen is the title of the movie, Hot Spell (1958), and pictures the two main characters. He mentions that the woman on the screen is his trifecta. When asked if he means literally the actress on the screen. He says “yes, literally.” The actress on the screen is Shirley MacLaine, who plays his wife in the movie. Kathy Bates originally played Frankie in the play “Frankie and Johnny at the Clair de Lune,” which was turned into the film Frankie and Johnny (1991), directed by Garry Marshall. This was filmed before Misery (1990) became a hit and turned Bates into a well-known actress, so she was not cast in the film version. In this film, she finally works with Marshall. Photo Links: |
